Rainy day in Myeongdong: an indoor plan around your appointment
Underground arcades, department-store food halls and a historic theatre. Staying dry within walking distance.
On a rainy day in Myeongdong, head underground: the Myeongdong Underground Shopping Center links to the station, and big department stores nearby have food halls and cafes. Add a historic theatre or a non-verbal show, and you can spend the afternoon dry and be two minutes from Guardians Dental for your appointment.
1. Go underground
Myeongdong Station connects to an underground shopping arcade, the same one marked on our walking map. Phone cases, socks, cosmetics and snacks, with no umbrella needed.
2. Department-store food halls
Large department stores sit a short walk away towards Euljiro 1-ga and Hoehyeon. Their basement food halls are a rainy-day feast: lunch boxes, bakeries, fruit and Korean sweets. Rooftop gardens are for another day.
3. A show or a theatre
Myeongdong has long been a theatre district. The restored Myeongdong Theater stages Korean drama, and the area hosts non-verbal performances that need no Korean at all. Check schedules on the day.
4. Cafe-hop
Seoul’s cafe culture shines in the rain: big windows, long opening hours and a lot of creative desserts. Whitening this week? Order a milk-based drink and see our colour guide.
5. And the dentist
A rainy afternoon is the ideal time for the visit you kept postponing. A check-up and scaling take about 70 minutes, and we are on the 4th floor, two minutes from Exit 9.
